In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we gathered up 3 unique places to find support. Having a community available that can accurately relate to an experience is beneficial for healing. Read on as we discuss the benefits of art therapy, explore a blog specifically dedicated towards women of a younger age, and share an “angel” mentoring program making personalized connections!

Stephanie McLeod-Estevez, LCPC facilitates workshops that incorporate art therapy, where she reminds people that art is soothing, and is not “just for artists.” She credits art therapy with offering the ability to “restore yourself”. She goes on to say, “It gives you the ability to develop your skills for reflection and resiliency, and to find ways to lean into the emotional chaos in order to let it go. As you practice art therapy, youâll feel more connected to yourself and regain the ability to influence how you respond and process the curve balls cancer throws.” You can check out her website here: https://www.lbbc.org/blog/why-art-therapy-is-such-a-powerful-tool

Stephanie Seban was a young adult when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She went on a mission to educate herself about the disease as much as possible, but soon discovered there weren’t many resources available which she felt were relatable for young people. In turn, she launched her own website to share her cancer story. She also published a blog to create a community of inspiration for others. Check out the link to her site, a source for not only inspiration, but also geared towards health and wellness. https://stephanieseban.com/my-cancer-story/

And last but not least, The Imerman Angels is a community that provides support by way of comfort and understanding for cancer fighters, survivors, previvors and caregivers. They offer a personalized 1-on-1 connection with someone who has been through a similar experience with breast cancer. Their main goal is to have a place to turn to which makes the experience a more unified one, instead of a solitary experience. Check out their website for more details and information! https://imermanangels.org
